Themes & Notes

Name:

Leaves are dying. So you can smell death in the best way possible. What is death? Change or a transformation.

There is a book called "A Sense of Nostalgia." It's about, whether can the girl overcome her past and her past lover. She is constantly looking for love/happiness but is always looking over her shoulder for the danger from the past.

After seeing that book, I knew that would be the name of this playlist.

  • Fall is the time when I always had my favorite memories: school, love (both romantic and self-love), Africa, etc.
  • Fall always has a certain smell to it like cinnamon, chai tea, coffee, foliage, candles, etc. Also, Fall foliage is a sign of change.
  • The description is from Robert Frost's poem of the same name.

Photo:

  • This was a photo I took at Hatcher Pass back in the Fall of 2015, a day I have very fond memories of. So having an old photo to represent this playlist was very fitting.

Summary

"If you look at the track listing, these are all feelings that I felt at some point in the past (i.e Super Sad Always, Freaks & Geeks, False Confidence, etc.)

If you look at the tracklist again, most of the songs are talking to each other. The songs are having a conversation.

(When R U Coming Home + Time to Get Over It + Save Room for Us + Sex, Money Feelings Die, etc)

Just like emotions, there is a constant back and forth between each other. Just like relationships.

I made a conscious decision of making Algorhythm and BRB to end the playlist.

Algorhythm is a very dystopian song by Gambino. The world and everything feel super dark and scary (Halloween). It also follows the song "Kids in the Dark" played previously. However, it responded and ended with "BRB."

BRB is a song about a long-distance relationship. However, the song (to me) is about patience and hope for the future, despite the present and past.

This year, I felt like I found myself again. So the track, "BRB" felt very fitting. I came back feeling myself again."
